Two Roswell High School Teachers Receive $1,000 from Thornburg Investment Management

ThornburgFebruary 10, 2019 – Thornburg Investment Management has contributed $1,000 each to two Roswell High School teachers for use during the 2018-19 academic year.

Greg Whitaker, Roswell High School parent of two graduates and two current students, is an employee of Thornburg, and spearheaded the gift.

“Each year my firm donates $1,000 per child to the respective schools of my children,” said Whitaker. “The donation is to be given to an individual teacher to be used at his/her discretion for anything that would benefit the classroom and students.”

This year LaShanda Whitworth and Regan Pierce, teachers of Whitaker’s two youngest children, Harriet Whitaker and Margaret Warren, have been selected.

Besides teaching Honors Human Anatomy and Advanced Placement Psychology, Whitworth is the chair of the Science Department Chairperson and Varsity Girls Gymnastics Coach. She plans to purchase Advanced Placement Psychology experiments and activities, especially those dealing with sensation and perception.

Pierce teaches World History. She hopes that the money can be used to help more students by bringing history to life in the classroom.

“I am so grateful for the members of the community who support the work we do at Roswell High School,” said Principal Robert Shaw. “This generous donation will certainly help our hard working teachers provide more opportunities for their students.”

Warren said, “I love that we have this opportunity to help a teacher in one small way.”

Said Whitaker, “It’s all driven at the top by [Chairman] Garrett Thornburg, who has a passion for education.”
