Waldroup is a 2001 Roswell High School graduate who teaches on-level American Government, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics in the Social Studies department. He is in his 13th year of teaching at RHS.

Said one student about him, “He’ll pose a question (either rhetorical in nature or on material we haven’t covered), flash a mischievous smile, and announce to the class with a sparkle in his eye ‘We’ll find out tomorrow…’. Then the bell will ring promptly, as if the school ran on his schedule. The class erupts in awe and exclamations of ‘How does he do it?’ while he just smiles and happily returns to his desk to prepare for his next class.”

“Mr. Waldroup is well-loved by his students for his compassion, humor, and energy, and known to faculty and staff for his student-centered approach to learning,” said Dr. Robert Shaw, principal. “This honor is well-deserved, and we are fortunate to have a teacher like Mr. Waldroup on staff at Roswell High School.”

Roswell Counselor Jennifer Miner was not only named Professional of the Year for Roswell High School, but was also selected as the Northwest Learning Community Professional Employee of the Year. Miner serves students whose last name begins with S-Z for ninth through twelfth graders. She is the head of the Care Team in times of crisis and has worked at Roswell High School 11 years.

“Ms. Miner works diligently to ensure a safe and supportive school environment for all students and staff,” explained Amy Short, Student Services Department Chair. “She connects with her students and serves as mom, motivator, role model, and will shoot it straight when a student needs to get it together.”

Each year a committee is formed to manage the nomination and selection process for both teacher and professional, which begins by surveying faculty and staff for nominations of their peers, and includes several more steps in the selection process.

“Our Teacher and Professional of the Year are the best of the best at Roswell High School,” said Shaw. “We’re proud to have Daniel Waldroup and Jennifer Miner on staff here, and proud to work with them each day.”
