Did you know? Since 1988, the U.S. Government has set aside the period from September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made and continue to make to the United States of America.Originally started as “Hispanic Heritage Week” under President Lyndon Johnson, President Ronald Reagan expanded the week to cover a 30-day period and it was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The term “Hispanic,” as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, refers to a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central America, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race.
